Location and Profile:
This recovery centre first opened in 2001 and since that time has helped thousands of people achieve effective recovery. The rehab, located on the sub-tropical lower KwaZulu-Natal South Coast offers the perfect location for treatment. Set within 23 acres of property, it is ideally situated to offer the best of the South African climate and scenery, whilst still affording clients the safety and peace of mind required to achieve recovery.
What can be treated?
The rehab can treat a whole range of addictions including,
- Behavioural Addictions (sexual, obsessive-compulsive)
- Eating disorders
Accommodation and Facilities:
Males and females are assigned separate accommodation. Rooms are spacious and airy, providing a tranquil environment to unwind and relax.
The rehab believes in the person being healthy in body as well as mind, which is why they offer a climbing wall, obstacle course, gym facilities, swimming pools, paintball, surf club, and equine intervention (grooming and feeding) amongst other activities.
It was founded upon the principle that they would do whatever it took to get each individual into long-term recovery. They appreciate that each person will have a different journey to undertake, therefore they offer a minimum 5 months’ treatment programme. This is because getting well takes as long as it takes, and removing the pressure that a person needs to be well in a short period of time results in a much healthier approach to the disease of addiction.
The rehab is a proud Christian Centre. For some this may raise connotations that they will be forcing their religion on others, or preaching, but it simply means they encourage clients to embrace their spirituality and personal Higher Power (whether this is God or something completely different).
The Treatment Team
The team at the centre are unique in that they see aiding others’ recovery as a calling, rather than a profession. Every member of staff is registered with the appropriate governing body, and consists of counsellors, social workers, a pastor, nurses, doctors and psychologists. Four of these staff members live on-site and so there is always some available to provide round-the-clock support should it be required.
The Treatment Program
The centre follows the twelve step programme and they host Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at the centre, providing clients with the opportunity to have a positive experience of the fellowships prior to attending them once they have been discharged.
Family therapy is strongly supported and family members are encouraged to spend time at the centre as well, in order to address any issues that have been encountered as a result of addiction. Having family members actively taking a role in the client’s recovery can provide the client with an intense feeling of support which can often build bridges that have been broken in the past.
