How Do Rehabs Work?
Residential rehabilitation clinics offer the most intensive form of addiction treatment available. Rehabs work by addressing both the physical and psychological side of an addiction simultaneously. The physical side will be addressed through medicated detox and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. The psychological side of the addiction aims to address the underlying reasons why the person has developed their addiction through a combination of therapeutic techniques including counselling and holistic therapies.
Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation centres will also teach the individual coping strategies ready for when they return to their everyday life, which will be further supported by a comprehensive aftercare programme. The aftercare provides a combination of local-to-home counselling on a one-to-one basis and also the opportunity to return to the rehab on a regular basis for group aftercare sessions.
When considering a residential rehabilitation clinic, many people will ask about success rates. However, this is not an easy question to answer for many reasons. Success means different things to different people; for some it will be completing the programme, for some it will be cutting down on the amount of a substance they use, and for others it will mean cutting the substance out completely. It must also be noted that it is very difficult to keep in contact with people for the rest of their lives following treatment, so there is no way of knowing if the programme has been successful in the long term.
What should be noted however, is the fact that anyone can recover. All that is needed is the most appropriate drug rehab clinic for their needs, and the motivation to get well. An important part of recovery is the person’s ability to follow the programme the residential treatment centre has taught them, which is why motivation plays such a huge role in the success stories. We believe that anyone who completes their residential stay in full, who completes an aftercare package, and who continues to follow the programme has a very high chance of success.
How Do I Access Rehab?
There are two routes to accessing a rehab programme. The most immediate route involves private treatment which means the person funds their own treatment and can enter a residential clinic the same day, Addiction Helper is on hand to help those individuals throughout their recovery journey. Those who do not have funds available should contact their local drug and alcohol team. Whilst this will often involve a long waiting list, it is certainly better than accessing no help at all. Addiction Helper staff are happy to guide individuals through this process too if that it what is required.
